This is a beautiful piece of descriptive writing. I love all the precise verbs (e.g. shimmers, waiting, inhaling), adverbs (e.g. cleverly, oddly, softly), adjectives (e.g. fluffy, motionless) that you've used. The use of personification in 'the shells lay wet waiting for the morning sun' is also very clever. It feels as though the whole beach is breathing with life.
